Hidden inside the branches of an old tree, the Bird Hotel welcomes migrating birds from around the world.

Some stay for a night.

Others return every season.

Every room has its own story, and every traveler is greeted by Gilbert Waddlesworth at the welcome desk.

Welcome to the Bird Hotel

Nestled within the branches of one very old tree, the Bird Hotel welcomes migrating birds, curious travelers, and the occasional unexpected guest. Every room has its own story, every branch leads somewhere new, and every visitor is greeted by Gilbert Waddlesworth at the front desk (where the air conditioning is always running).

Take a stroll through the branches and meet some of our current residents.

 

Gilbert Waddlesworth

Position: Bird Hotel Manager

 

If you've arrived safely, chances are you've already met Gilbert. He keeps the guest book, hands out room keys, recommends the best branches for sunset views, and insists that every traveler deserves a warm welcome... while he enjoys a comfortably cool lobby.

1.Mountain Quail

A quiet soul who prefers the peaceful root cottages tucked beneath moss and wildflowers.

Favorite Snack: Woodland seeds

Known For: Early morning walks through the roots.

 

2.Golden Pheasant

The Bird Hotel's most elegantly decorated resident. Their woodland pavilion is filled with colorful feathers and leafy details.

Favorite Snack: Berries and forest seeds

Known For: Bringing a little extra sparkle wherever they go.

 

3.Indian Peafowl

Lives near the heart of the tree in a beautifully decorated room with feather-inspired details.

Favorite Snack: Garden berries

Known For: Excellent decorating advice.

 

4.Northern Wheatear

A quiet neighbor whose tiny stone cottage is almost hidden among the roots.

Favorite Snack: Tiny insects

Known For: Finding the coziest corners.

 

5.Weaver Bird

The master architect of the Bird Hotel.

Visitors often stop simply to admire the beautifully woven hanging nest.

Favorite Snack: Grass seeds

Known For: Extraordinary craftsmanship.

 

6.Tailor Bird

Built an ingenious home stitched together with leaves and delicate fibers.

Favorite Snack: Small insects

Known For: Never wasting a scrap.

 

7.Common Myna

Collector of shiny treasures, interesting buttons, ribbons, and curious little objects.

Favorite Snack: Fruit and seeds

Known For: "Borrowing" things that sparkle.

 

8.Mallard

Requested a room with its own tiny pond and somehow convinced Gilbert to make it happen.

Favorite Snack: Aquatic plants

Known For: Hosting afternoon chats by the water.

 

9.Cinnamon Teal

A gentle resident whose cozy reed-lined room overlooks the lower branches.

Favorite Snack: Seeds and pond plants

Known For: Bringing peaceful afternoon energy.

 

10.Nightingale

As evening falls, music drifts softly through the middle branches.

Favorite Snack: Berries

Known For: Sunset concerts.

 

11.Bluethroat

Bright, cheerful, and always happy to welcome new neighbors.

Favorite Snack: Tiny berries

Known For: Beautiful songs and colorful company.

 

12.Canary

Lives in one of the sunniest rooms in the hotel, where flowers bloom around every window.

Favorite Snack: Canary seed

Known For: Brightening the entire branch.

 

13.Cuban Tody

One of the smallest and most colorful residents.

Favorite Snack: Tiny insects

Known For: Cheerful greetings.

 

14.Lilac-breasted Roller

Its colorful balcony is impossible to miss.

Favorite Snack: Insects

Known For: Turning every gathering into a celebration.

 

15.Indian Pitta

Built a beautifully camouflaged moss-covered home tucked among the branches.

Favorite Snack: Worms and insects

Known For: Quiet woodland walks.

16.Scott's Oriole

A talented nest builder with impeccable taste.

Favorite Snack: Nectar and fruit

Known For: Elegant woven homes.

 

17.Rose-breasted Grosbeak

A regular at the Seed Café and one of its first loyal customers.

You'll usually find this resident enjoying a sunflower seed special while listening to stories from fellow travelers.

18.Bar-tailed Godwit

One of the Bird Hotel's greatest travelers.

Favorite Snack: Shoreline treats

Known For: Incredible journeys and wonderful stories.

 

19.Red Knot

Always arrives with a tiny suitcase and another adventure to share.

Favorite Snack: Tiny shellfish

Known For: Never staying still for long.

 

20.Northern Harrier

Chose one of the highest lookout platforms overlooking Tiny World.

Favorite Snack: Fresh catches

Known For: Loving wide open skies.

 

21.Amur Falcon

A remarkable traveler whose room sits among the breezy upper branches.

Favorite Snack: Flying insects

Known For: Remarkable journeys across continents.

 

22.Bar-headed Goose

This friendly traveler prefers neighboring rooms with others so they can continue chatting long after sunset.

Favorite Snack: Mountain grasses

Known For: Crossing some of the highest mountains on Earth.

 

23.Black-chinned Hummingbird

Lives in the tiniest room in the hotel... a teacup nest beside the Amur Falcon's suite.

Proof that wonderful homes come in every size.

Favorite Snack: Flower nectar

Known For: Fearless determination.

 

24.Lucifer Hummingbird

A canopy resident whose blossom suite glows in the evening light.

Favorite Snack: Nectar

Known For: Finding the brightest flowers.

 

25.Snowcap

Perched just above the Seed Café, sipping nectar while watching the bustle below.

Favorite Snack: Nectar

Favorite View: The café garden.

 

26.Keel-billed Motmot

Lives in a hidden leafy suite near the top of the canopy.

Favorite Snack: Fruit

Known For: Loving peaceful places.

 

27.Toco Toucan

Occupies one of the Bird Hotel's largest canopy suites with spectacular views.

Favorite Snack: Tropical fruit

Known For: Welcoming sunshine.

 

28.Great Grey Owl

The quiet keeper of the lantern-lit reading room hidden inside the tree.

Favorite Snack: Evening tea (and the occasional mouse, according to rumor.)

Known For: Reading long after everyone else has gone to sleep.

 

29.Eurasian Wryneck

Lives behind a beautifully hidden bark door that many visitors walk past without noticing.

Favorite Snack: Ants 🐜😳

Known For: Being delightfully difficult to find.

 

 30.Honorary Resident

Adélie Penguin

Although Gilbert spends most of his time at the welcome desk, the Bird Hotel simply wouldn't be the same without him.

If you happen to pass through, don't forget to ring the bell, sign the guest book, and tell him where your journey began.

He'll probably ask if the lobby temperature is comfortable.
